Michaela Mabinty DePrince, a ballerina born during Sierra Leone’s civil war who featured in Beyoncé’s *Lemonade* visual album, has passed away at the age of 29, according to an announcement on her official Instagram.

“Her life was marked by grace, purpose, and strength. Her dedication to her art, humanitarian work, and her courage in overcoming unimaginable challenges will continue to inspire us,” the post read.

“She was a beacon of hope to many, proving that beauty and greatness can emerge from even the darkest of circumstances.”
